The stadium was opened on 3 July 2009, the first ever match in the stadium that day met Lokomotiv (Astana club, established at the beginning of that year at the two clubs in Almaty) and the youth team of Kazakhstan. Match judged famous Italian referee Pierluigi Collina, the symbolic first blow at the ball under his whistle struck the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. As part of each team, in addition to their regular players, were invited on two "stars": in the youth national team of Kazakhstan - the defender of Georgia and the Italian "Milan" Kakha Kaladze and striker Andriy Shevchenko, and in the "Locomotive" - ​​known Turkish players Hasan Sas and Hakan Shukur.



October 14, 2009 at the stadium for the first time an official match of the national teams: in the qualifying tournament of the 2010 World Team of Kazakhstan met with the Croatian national team. The match ended in favor of the visitors with the score 2:1, the decisive goal was scored at the end of the match in stoppage time.
